The first ever academic meeting in the history of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Surgical practice in Sri Lanka was held recently at the Galadari Hotel Colombo. This Academic venture was organised by the Association of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Surgeons of Sri Lanka (ACTSSL). The pinnacle of these academic activities of the association was the inaugural academic sessions which kicked off with the inauguration ceremony where Dr Nihal Kulathilake, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon who has helped many of the trainees train in the United Kingdom, was the Chief Guest.
The inaugural ‘Ravi Pillai Memorial Oration’ which was in memory of another renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr Ravi Pillai was delivered by one of his trainees Dr Chandima Amarasena, a senior Cardiothoracic surgeon in NHSL.
