The organisers of the Pretty in Pink brunch launched its first campaign in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, recently in Toronto, Canada. The event aims to support those impacted by Breast Cancer in Sri Lanka through the Indira Cancer Trust (ICT) in Sri Lanka. The event was held at The Old Mill in Toronto, Canada and it is the first event to be held in Toronto in partnership with MedicAid Sri Lanka, a Canadian registered not-for-profit organization in support of the Indira Cancer Trust fund.
The event had a full agenda that included guest speakers, raffle draws, vendor tables and a fashion show. Dr. John Rukshan de Almedia, MD, MSc, FRCSC, Associate Professor, Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at University of Toronto, Surgeon at Department of Surgical Oncology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre spoke about the importance of educating oneself about the risk factors for early onset of cancer and ways to manage risks. Mrs. Navina Senaratne, a proud past pupil of Visakha Vidyalaya and a cancer survivor herself spoke passionately of how having a positive mindset helped her conquer cancer.
The event was further glamorised by an exclusive fashion show sponsored by House of Pallu, a one-of-a- kind boutique in Toronto.
