A stylish ensemble
Yes, he's courteous, charming, adorable and thoughtful, but when he's dressed like a gentleman, he's a walking homme fatale – sexy, seductive, irresistible and potentially dangerous. He is in fact, a luxury Maserati GranTurismo with a turbocharged engine, a tantalising blend of power and grace, his refined elegance leaving a trail of desire in his wake. Take film and television actors, Hemel Ranasinghe, Keshan Shashindra and Poojana Dandeniya, for example!
Think I'm exaggerating? Well, whilst it's true that every woman is unique and has her own individual preferences, it seems that a majority of women do actually prefer a gentleman.
That's right! A man who is well-turned out and debonair will appeal to women because they appreciate the effort he has put into his appearance, and feel that this level of attention to detail will carry over into other facets of his life, including his relationships. And these ladies may be right.
Nevertheless, a stylish guy doesn't just focus on what's hanging in his wardrobe – he pays attention to other aspects of finesse too.
He sees to it that he accessorises appropriately, chooses complementary colours and wears items of clothing that fit correctly. A gent will have an eye for detail and take the time to ensure that his belt and shoes are a perfect match and that his tie and pocket handkerchief complement each other perfectly. If he's a very uptown type of guy, he'll even be wearing expensive cufflinks and an impressive watch to make himself look even more incredibly charming.
Modern gentlemen
So what's the secret? Well, dressing confidently in a way that flatters your body, suits your personality, and reflects your style is frankly a true art. From a well-fitted wool or tweed suit, smart shirt, trousers and shoes to cufflinks, sunglasses, a watch, tie and a pocket square – elegance is not about standing out but being remembered. So, what should a sexy gentleman be wearing?
The dapper essentials
- Trench coats are great for layering over a smart suit and an absolute must-have for milder or warmer climates. At the moment a chic and timeless, more lightweight single-breasted trench coat is very popular, in minimalist style and without the extra embellishments like epaulettes (ornamental shoulder pieces), belts, or buckles.
- Suits can be easily adapted to different occasions and climates just by changing the shirt, tie, or shoes, for example. Look for various cool options in tweed or corduroy, checked and velvet.
- Tank tops are super versatile and can be paired with just about anything! However, if you're looking to give your tank top a more stylish gentlemanly twist consider matching it with a quality pair of tailored men’s trousers. Alternatively, a neutral-coloured tank top worn with classic white chinos will create a fabulous contrast between casual and formal.
- Dress shirts are absolutely fabulous when worn with a tasteful tie and a stylish formal suit. They can also look great with a pair of trendy jeans for a casually sophisticated look. In fact, no discerning gentleman can do without a selection of designer button-ups in his wardrobe. Not only are they versatile, but they are positively chic and flattering on everyone if you ensure you have the correct measurements. Wearing dress shirts that don't fit well can make your overall look appear unprofessional, untidy, and not as polished.
- Footwear like Oxfords, Derbies, Monk Straps, and Italian moccasins come in various colours and sleek designs. Crafted with genuine soft leather, these shoes are perfect for achieving a classic impeccable style. You should opt for a pair of polished brogue or semi-brogue shoes for their durable leather uppers which often feature decorative perforations, also known as "broguing", and serration along the visible edges of the leather pieces.
- Boxer briefs are great for highlighting your lower abdomen and enhancing your physique. What's more, a recent Men’s Health study, found that a staggering 58% of women actually prefer their men in boxer briefs over other types of underwear.
But remember – dressing well is not only about looking good and feeling marvellous: “The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are” — Joseph Campbell (American writer)
