Personifying an excellent work ethic tempered with a steadfast determination to practice a career despite being born with a congenital disability, Ruwini Jayarathne deserves every accolade going. Ruvini, 30 is a self taught jewellery designer and is a Fellow of the Gemological Association of Great Britain in addition to being a qualified accountant. Not one to rest on her laurels nor allow her disability to hold her back Ruwini launched her eponymous jewellery brand which comprises beautifully constructed pieces fashioned with semi precious stones and metals.
“My passion for gemstones is what inspired me to start my own jewellery line. I always knew that I was going to start something of my own and then when I was introduced to the world of gems I knew I found my calling. I saw a gap between what was offered to the customers in the market and how much more could be offered and I knew that I am well equipped with all the knowledge and resources to find a place in this vast industry. I saw an opportunity in the market for those who would love wearing jewellery using unique and different gemstones and that is how the thought of RJJ came about.”
