The lazy girl’s guide to breakfast

Breakfast is the king of all meals yet somehow majority of us seem to never bother with getting some
food in our system in the early hours of the day. Some of us start our day with a cup of coffee and that
just ruins the whole ideology of needing breakfast, or we just don’t wake up in time to make breakfast
and are too fixated with the clock ticking to care about breakfast. The excuses seem to never end and
can vary from “I don’t have enough time” to “I’m just not a breakfast person”.

According to research, skipping breakfast puts you on the fast track to heart diseases, mood swings,
menstrual irregularity, hormonal stress, weakening memory and low energy levels. And if these side
effects aren’t convincing enough, a constant lack of breakfast makes you easily susceptible to weight
gain.

That being said, here are some easy but solid meals for breakfast that won’t break your bank, nor take
up too much of your time or a toll on your health.

1. An apple a day…
Dice an apple and mix it into half a cup of yogurt. Ideally, non-fat yogurt or Greek yogurt would
be a better choice but hey! Something’s better than nothing. You can even add in some basil or
chia seeds to complete the meal.

2. The OG Breakfast
Cornflakes and milk! The easy peasiest. You can either opt for flavored milk or fresh milk. If you
are not a fan of that fresh milk taste, add in a dollop of honey. Makes all the difference in the
world and it doesn’t hurt that Honey has proved to be beneficial time and time again. You can
mix it up and switch the milk out for drinking yogurt. Slightly thicker but your cornflakes retains
that crunch so much longer.

3. Overnight Oats
Personally, this is a big NO for me, but it seems to be a crowd favorite around the world. Add in
some rolled oats with some milk and throw in those berries and some honey and pop it in the
refrigerator. You can also add in a few chunks of dark chocolate chips to keep it interesting. This
is perfect if you prefer making your breakfast the night before.

4. The good filling
Here’s another nighttime breakfast prep for the morning sloths. Throw in shredded boiled
chicken/beef, diced carrot, cucumber, tomato, a decent amount of curd and spices to your
tasting and mix away. Spread it on your brown bread or roti, foil it up and you’ve got yourself
something healthy, delicious and extremely filling.

5. A good ol’ smoothie
Blend a few fruits you have lying around with some milk or Greek yogurt and voila. If you need a
sweetener, always remember to ditch the sugar and opt for honey.

If all else fails, get yourself a tea bun and a yogurt.
