Hurray! December is here and Christmastime is just around the corner! So picture this … a social calendar crammed with family gatherings, fun nights out, and lots of fabulous parties! Sounds exciting? Yeah, I thought so! It is indeed the season to sparkle and that's why, Hi!! has some stunning makeup tips for your ultimate festive makeover. It is, after all, the most wonderful time of the year!
Make Christmas and New Year dazzling
So, want to rock a super eye-catching makeover with a bold Christmassy look? Now's the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and go all out with your cosmetics. Break those rules by dressing up your features and adding a little drama and red-carpet looks. Christmas party make-up is all about glam whilst making a beauty statement that says “Be fearless. Be daring. Be simply beautiful”.
All I want for Christmas is perfection
You don't want to spend ages on your make-up only for it to melt off as soon as you arrive at the party, so here's the secret to a flawless, long-lasting application. For starters, ensure that your complexion is in tip-top condition by transforming dull, lacklustre skin with an exfoliating mask or brightening serum. This will get rid of dead skin and unlock pores to leave you looking radiant.
Next, apply a rejuvenating and firming eye mask that erases fine lines and lightens dark circles – it’s the perfect remedy for tired-looking eyes. Above all, use a primer before applying foundation to minimise minor skin imperfections, even out skin texture and prevent shine so your makeup stays put all night long. Finish with a subtle dusting of powder perfector.
Accentuate cheekbones and get a radiant glow with a bronzer or a blush. Opt for shades that have warm, golden undertones and a touch of shimmer. Apply horizontally across the highest part of your cheekbones, inner eye and bridge of the nose with a fan brush.
Merry kiss-mas!
Kiss your thin lips goodbye and plump up the volume with a lightweight hydrating lipstick or gloss: preferably one that contains hyaluronic acid, as this attracts moisture and will result in an immediate pout-plumping effect.
“Give a woman the right lipstick and she can conquer the world”, and nothing says ‘polished’ and ‘glamour’ like a sensual velvety crimson lipstick... it's so damn sexy! Decorate your lips in a vibrant, and completely smudge-proof shade of red with a glossy finish and draw attention to them by applying glitter or a few sequins with a precision lip brush. If you're not keen on punchy pillar box or ruby red, opt for deep berry-toned fuchsia or wine. Don't forget to gently blot your lips with a neutral powder, which helps it last longer and stay in place.
Time to get the glitter on
A 'smoky eye' is forever stylish when blended for a dramatic effect, but at this time of the year you can find the most wonderful Christmassy eyeshadow palettes that will keep your eyes merry and bright. Warm shades of bronze, gold, even chocolate brown or bold rich red blended all the way up to your brow bone are most flattering. Top off your eyeshadow with a clear gloss to add serious shine and pat a little loose glitter at the inner corners of your eyes. And get this: for an exaggerated festive look, stick tiny gems or nail crystals on top with glitter glue. Frosty white highlighters and eyeshadows look fab with glitter and rhinestones, too.
Rock a festive eye-opening look
Take your lashes to luxurious lengths and forget that ‘subtle’ flick! Go for a striking bold cat eye, (similar to a winged liner, but usually with a thicker wing that includes both the top and bottom lash line, and flicks out at the outer corner). For stunning glitter wings, make your base out of glitter glue or a cream shadow, and use a piece of tape to get a clean edge. While the base is still tacky, use the tip of your finger to apply loose glitter. Now, pull off the tape and use it to remove any loose glitter from around your eyes – it's easier than you think.
Finally, if you really want OTT, check out Christmas false eyelashes and feel like the most fabulous version of yourself this holiday season!
