Legends of our times


These Zeitgeists, the movers and shakers of their times helped to bring about positive change in the spheres of politics, business, arts, music, literature, sports and culture. Their work helped to put Sri Lanka on the map.  Here is a selection of legends we have featured over the years.

D.S. Senanayake

Father of the Nation, Don Stephen Senanayake was Sri Lanka’s first Prime Minister. His fine statesmanship helped transform a British colony into an independent nation.

Anagarika Dharmapala

Anagarika Dharmapala is a universal symbol of an individual’s fervent desire to propagate Buddhism not only in Sri Lanka but beyond its shores.

Upali Wijewardene

Upali Wijewardene was feted as one of Sri Lanka’s finest entrepreneurs. He can be considered as the first Sri Lankan to have a conglomerate of businesses.

Ena de silva

Ena De Silva has the distinction of being credited with singlehandedly reviving the Sri Lankan Batik industry through her use of traditional Sri Lankan designs.
