Tina Edward Gunawardhana is wooed by Aarunya Nature Resort and Spa’s hilltop charm, hospitality and tasteful luxury
Living in a bustling city which is akin to a concrete jungle the desire to return to nature to reset one’s mind and body beckons loudly and what better way to indulge in a dose of self rejuvenation than to visit a resort shrouded in shades of emerald as far as the eye can see. My escape was to the Aarunya Nature Resort and Spa situated on an undulating mountaintop away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy but still a comfortable distance from all that the citadel city has to offer. The resort’s name Aarunya traces its roots to Sanskrit and means first rays of the sun. Aptly named, the resort enjoys welcoming the first rays of the sun each morning. The entire area including the valley below and the UNESCO heritage site of Knuckles which lies further afield are bathed in an ethereal glow. Surrounded by silence, punctuated by the occasional sound of birdcall and the rustling of the mountain breeze the resort is a totally peaceful idyll.
