Dessert Review: Love Pastry

Dessert, anyone?

What are you in the mood for today? Something chocolatey, maybe with a hint of caramel or just some plain old coffee flavored goodness? Love Pastry has it all! While the news of the second curfew had me feeling down in the dumps, Saarah Hassen, the face behind Love Pastry came through with some of the best she has to offer. Pixie dust is the secret ingredient. How else could anything taste this good?

Here’s what I tried:

  • Chocolate Chip Brownies – LKR 2000 (10 pieces)

Does the perfect brownie exist? Yes. You can get them at Love Pastry. While these brownies are not only fresh and crisp, they were equal parts soft and gooey with a rich chocolate taste. The perfect treat for a die hard chocolate fan.

  • Mini Assorted Cupcakes – LKR 170 (Each)

I had the cupcakes in 3 flavors: Pure Chocolate, Mocha, and Salted Caramel Chocolate. Now if you were in my shoes, I can guarantee you that just like me, you will not be able to pick a favorite. They were all just too good to be true.

  • Mini Assorted Eclairs – LKR 150 (Each)

The eclairs come in 5 flavors: DBL Chocolate, Coffee Cream, Rose & Pistachio, Vanilla Salted Caramel, and Chocolate Salted Caramel. The Rose & Pistachio was definitely too pretty to eat, and the taste was just as exquisite. While the other flavored eclairs might look like your ordinary average éclair, they tasted anything but average. Extremely rich in flavor and taste, they will definitely have you wanting more than intended.

  • Tiramisu – LKR 675 (Per Tub)

Get yourself a tub of this and no Tiramisu would ever mount to the level of expectation set by this specific tub. The cake layer, the cream cheese and the coffee complimented each other too well. The taste definitely kick started my taste buds into wanting more coffee infused desserts.

  • Nutella Ferrero Rocher Cheesecake – LKR 750 (Per Tub)

While I do not like the taste of Nutella (Yes, I said it. Sue me!), the cheesecake sure did taste amazing! It had the right amount of cream cheese to compliment the soft and crumbly base. If not for the Nutella, I would have definitely gone for seconds and thirds with this tub.

Love Pastry rebranded in November 2019 and became a full-time business. When asked the founder her story behind starting Love Pastry, this is what she had to say;

“I’ve been baking and experimenting since I was about 8 years old. I’ve been taking orders for friends and family as a hobby since I was 15. I took a break while I was studying in Sydney for 3 years and when I came back to Sri Lanka, I started testing and baking different pastries and cakes. Living in Sydney for 3 years made me fall in love with the different kinds of patisseries that existed around me. I was so inspired by what I saw! Everything looked like a piece of art. My commerce degree at the university of Sydney was a strong foundation to be able to have the courage to pursue Love Pastry without any professional knowledge or skill in the food industry.

Baking is a passion of my mother’s and that’s how I started baking. My mum is my strong emotional and mental support, who pushes me to do what I LOVE at any cost. My dad is a businessman – someone who makes the impossible come into reality and it’s growing up with him beside me is what made me push myself to achieve the little I have achieved today with Love Pastry. For the first few years of my business, my dad bought me all the ingredients – while he had to bear 100% of the costs, I reaped 100% of the benefits. To date, my mum and dad still buy me ingredients (free ingredients for me!!)

With the support of my parents, my world is so vast and beyond glass ceilings when I dream about the future of Love Pastry. I’m excited to see where my future lies with LP!

Want to order? Here’s how you can do it:

DM @love.pastry_ on Instagram preferably 2-3 days prior to when you’re going to need whichever goodness you have your heart set on. Let me give you a fair warning though, you will constantly find yourself stalking her Instagram and salivating. The minimum order quantity depends on each item but for Eclairs, it would be 10,  while for cupcakes, 12. You can even get what you need customized as per your requirement.

Love Pastry was recommended to me by a friend, and here’s me recommending it to you. This is one thing you are definitely NOT going to regret. Or probably will, when you lose all self-control and keep ordering! Then again, you only live once, right?
