Donuts just got a ‘hole’ lot better

What wouldn’t we give to have a Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts outlet right here in Colombo? Now while an international donut franchise might take forever to make its way here, brothers Isham and Ikram along with their brother in law, Athiff has cooked up something just as good. Oh! Donuts is the latest and upcoming place for all those exotic flavors of donuts.

With over 30 flavors to choose from, Oh! Donuts has revamped the donut game right here in Colombo. In addition to the variety of flavors, they also have milkshakes and coffee that go right along side those donuts of your choice. Each item on the menu has been designed and flavored for all kinds of taste buds. If you are looking for a comfort flavor, then the ‘Double chocolate’ or ‘Sugar glazed’ donut is your best option. Supposing you are down to try something that tastes more daring, you’ll definitely be satisfied with options such as the ‘Mango Donut’ and ‘Coconut donut’ for a more exotic and unusual taste. There’s just so much to try at Oh! Donuts.

Initially, the founders set up their kitchen with the hopes of producing pralines and luxury hand crafted chocolates but like all plans, this one was another that had to be put on hold due to the pandemic that broke out last year. Instead they opted for uniquely crafted donut recipes. While it is quite disappointing that these luxury chocolates didn’t enter the local market, there’s a part of me and the rest of the Oh! Donuts fandom that would say otherwise. Here’s why.

From their premium range, I managed to grab my hands on the ‘KitKat donut’, ‘Nutella burst’, ‘New York Cheesecake’, ‘Tiramisu’, and the ‘Chocolate nutty’. Hands down, the ‘New York Cheesecake’ was an absolute best and is also said to be a crowd favorite after the ‘Nutella burst’. Each of these flavors lived up to their name and had so much flavor and cream oozing out after the first bite. If you’re stuck on an assignment and pulling an all-nighter, the ‘Tiramisu’ donut is highly recommended. Not only does it taste absolutely divine, but it also has quite a strong coffee flavor infused.

Moving on to the regular range, the ‘Double choc’ donut will do wonders to your taste buds and fulfill that chocolate craving we all seem to have from time to time. A smart tip would be to keep a napkin around or it’s going to get crazy messy from all the chocolate ganache packed inside. Next up I went on to try the ‘Strawberry cream’, ‘Sugar glaze’, and the ‘Vanilla glaze’ donut. While I found the ‘Strawberry cream’ to be too sweet for my liking, the glazed donuts were balanced in flavor and was an absolute pleasure to try.

Let’s talk about the ‘Kiwi Jelly’ donut I tried from the Jelly series. I was hesitant at first because the flavor was quite unusual, and I really didn’t want this donut to ruin all the other donuts for me. But to sum it up in a word; the flavor was indescribable! In a good way of course. Like the fruit, the donut was sweet but also had a spike of sour mixed into it. This donut might not be the go to choice for everyone, but it sure wouldn’t hurt to try. Apart from this they also have ‘Strawberry Jelly’ and ‘Blueberry Jelly’ in this range.

To make an order you can either DM them on Instagram (@ohdonutslk) or get through to them on their hotline 076 575 7574. In bit of a hurry to grab those donuts? You can find them on Uber Eats and Pick Me Food for a faster delivery. If you are driving around Colombo you can drop by their cute mini donut van parked right outside Arabian Knights down Galle Road, Colombo 03 and get your hands on these circular treats. However, for customized orders they require notice 1 day prior.

All in all, Oh! Donuts has upped the donut game in Sri Lanka with their soft and fluffy donuts that are reasonably priced. They also add 1 new flavor every month to keep their customers excited and wanting more. A must try for all you donut lovers. 10 out of 10, would recommend.
