Restaurant Review - The Deck

Kandy is like a mine; you need to go in search of good places to eat and most of them are not that great.
I heard about a chef who had moved back to Sri Lanka from Melbourne and I wanted to try his menu. Chef Damien had an impressive culinary history, having worked most of his career as a chef in various parts of Australia. He has now returned to Sri Lanka to start his own restaurant named The Deck.

We arrived at this uniquely decorated and dimly lit little restaurant full of character.

The menu was simple but had something for everyone. I started with their Bruschetta with a twist.  It came with a mix of coriander and naimiris. I like the difference. The tomatoes were fresh and the twist they had added was nice.

Kandy is not very popular when it comes to sea food so I was pretty excited to see Grilled Salmon on their menu. My husband being the carnivore he is, went with the mixed grill.

I was shocked to see the size of my dish when it arrived. It was HUGE! It was double the size you would be served at any other restaurant. It came with a side of mashed potato's and steamed vegetable and it was delicious. I loved it.

My husband was so full after his delicious mixed grill that he decided not to have desert, but my love for food didn't stop me from getting desert. I ordered their mini doughnuts - the portion was large and yummy, but I was too full to finish. It was too good to leave behind so I shamelessly asked to take it away.

I would recommend this place even if you want to have a really nice juice or their amazing peanut butter milkshake. Their portions are generously sized, like in America, and reasonably priced. This place would be ideal for a family meal or to meet up with friends.
